Health mission in Guinea-Bissau
Health mission in Guinea-Bissau
The CPPS community of Bissaquel (Guinea-Bissau) has begun expansion work on its health post.
The initial project was officially launched in 2015 and had the support of the NGO Copa Mater, the Gaspar del Búfalo Foundation, several parishes, and private individuals. For some time, it operated with volunteer doctors and nurses. In 2017, a work contract was signed with a doctor and nurse, and it began operating regularly.

However, the community is growing, making it necessary to improve the space with a clinical analysis laboratory (already in operation) for more efficient service. Now the building (photograph) has become too small for the health needs, and therefore on March 14th, expansion works began.
The new infrastructure is expected to serve a community of over 5,000 people.
The project has the financial support of the Pontifical Mission Societies (an ecclesial organization that reports directly to the Pope), and aims to increase the capacity of the center, which is currently the only health unit in the community.
In statements to Radio Sol Mansi, in Bissau, the various participants highlighted the importance of this project for people's health: for the Missionary of the Most Precious Blood, Fr. Lima da Silva, “With the expansion, the health center will offer better conditions to treat virtually all the most common pathologies faced by the local population.”; According to Lurdes da Costa, the head of the health department in Safim, “"The new sanitary facility will not only improve the quality of care, but also allow for the retrieval of data and strengthen patient follow-up."”; Finally, the community leader, Paulino Imbali Djú, assured that “"The population is committed to protecting the area and has called for the active participation of residents."”.
