“When the Office and the Mass are said with a dry spirit, without human gaze, offer your sufferings to God. We do not always gather roses from our garden; sometimes we also gather myrrh. Sometimes we offer the gold of ardent love, and sometimes the myrrh of concrete sufferings, and always the incense of prayer. We will never appear before Jesus with empty hands.” (St. Gaspar del Bufalo, letter 1772)
