CPPS Reception

On June 8, 2026, Pope Leo XIV met with the diocesan community of Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium (Madrid). It was a large gathering, with the stadium completely full.

The words and testimony of a family originally from Peru stood out, as they recounted firsthand how they were welcomed at the parish of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in the Orcasitas neighborhood of Madrid.

Here is his testimony:

Pope Leo IV, in his speech, said:

The stories we heard tonight tell us, or rather, “sing” to us, how much life there is in this Church. Someone gave the following testimony: “I can say without hesitation that I deeply love the Church, the family of God, where we all have a place.” Another said: “I felt great joy and responsibility in becoming a more active member of the community and sharing my gifts with the rest of the Church members.” And still others said: “For us, serving in these programs is not only a way to help, but also a way to reciprocate all the affection and support we receive.” This is the Church, dear brothers and sisters! This is the music of the Gospel, with its contagious rhythm. When it reaches the heart, it makes someone say that they felt welcomed with open arms, like the sister who came from Peru to Madrid. Many, like her and her family, initially feel afraid to approach, because they have heard of prejudice and disappointment. Kindness, even if it comes from a few, can overcome the fear of many. Be, for everyone, like an open Bible: may the Word of God be found in your faces and in your lives. Love is, indeed, the language that makes everyone feel at home. Thank you very much.
