Founding day of the Congregation
August 15, 1815
On this day, St. Gaspar del Bufalo founded the Society of Apostolic Life of the Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood in S. Felice di Umbria (Giano, Italy). He did not intend to found a congregation with vows, but a Society where the priests who participated in the mission loved one another, met in a house to rest, pray, and share apostolic experiences.
What led them to live like that? What were the foundations of their Blood spirituality?
- THE ALLIANCE
God makes a covenant of love and friendship with his people, which demands fidelity from both sides.
Therefore, the spirituality of the Blood of Christ, yesterday and today, asks us to be faithful to LOVE, accompanying those who are alone, the elderly, the marginalized, and those who are discarded by society because they do not produce.
- THE CROSS
Christ shed his Blood = Life on the cross, therefore the cross is not a symbol of suffering, but rather of Life.
The spirituality of the Most Precious Blood of Christ, yesterday and today, asks us to take those who suffer into our hands to help them transform their suffering into joy and life, so that they do not feel defeated by pain.
- The Chalice
The Blood of Christ is offered for all in the sacrifice of the altar and asks us: "Do this in remembrance of me.".
The spirituality of the Most Precious Blood, yesterday and today, asks us to work for peace, fraternity, solidarity, tolerance, and to collaborate in eliminating from this earth everything that brings suffering to humanity.
Therefore, when we celebrate the Eucharist, in the Lord's chalice, with his Blood, our successes and failures, our joys and sorrows, our sins and virtues are mingled.
In short, the spirituality of the Blood of Christ asks us to collaborate in a culture of life, marked by the values of the Blood of Christ: total surrender, being just, peaceful and peacemakers, being people of listening, peace, fraternity, solidarity and boundless love.
Only in this way will we banish the culture of death from our world: selfishness, violence, contempt, marginalization, indifference, and dedicate ourselves to those who need us most.
